What Career Field or Course of Study Can I Use My AA in 3D Design In; I No Longer Want to Pursue Art, Though?

by on January 26, 2012

I have an AA Degree in Art and 3D Design. It's pretty useless as I know virtually nothing about computers or HTML or any kind of computer graphics. I'm not sure if I should even pursue art anymore (except as a hobby maybe). What other areas or courses of study possibly leading to a B.A. can I "convert" or transfer my existing AA to? I am pretty lost as far as where to put this degree to good use. I am older (in my 50's) and I haven't worked for 6 years due to an illness which is now resolved. I need to get back out in the "marketplace" but at my age and with a pretty much useless degree, I am stymied where to turn for answers. Any suggestions out there? I have some work experience in para-legal, and I worked a civil service job for 29 years in customer service. I'm very creative (truly I am an artist) and I'm also a very competent musician. I am currently studying medical transcription, but I'm not sure if it's for me. I appreciate any thoughts or suggestions out there !!!!
The suggestion for working in a gallery or museum etc is not a bad idea. I checked out some local area museums for office work - they wanted a B.A. which I don't have. I will pursue that further. I actually don't need to earn a HUGE salary. I have a pension from my civil service job and thru that have health insurance. I just need to earn some money - entry level earnings would suit me fine. I just need to figure out...what in?

It’s going to be tough as you will be competing with people half your age with twice the education who are willing to work for 1/10 of the money.

If you’re artist, why are you studying medical transcription? Why not work as an office manager or program assistant with an Arts program or gallery?
