I do medical transcription. I want to go back to school for a backup plan. Because of technology, I do not think transcription will be around for very much longer. Doctors are already self-editing and dictating into systems that transcribe their reports on their own with minimal errors.
I was thinking of studying to become a paralegal/legal assistant and wanted to know if this is a good career??
If anyone is out there that does this for a living, how do they like working in this profession. I have transcription experience. Is that a job requirement?? What kinds of things do paralegals do??
Any serious input on this would be greatly appreciated.
HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!!!

It is a good career if you find a law firm where the lawyers are compassionate respectful people. If not they could make your life a living hell so I would say go for it but choose your place of work with care. It is a good paying job with a high level of satisfaction especially if you have a lot of client contact, for example in immigration law you will. Not only that you know you are helping someone achieve their dream and that is an added incentive.
PS Craigslist.org Jobs: legal/paralegal is a great place to search for a job!! they always have new postings
Boy do I agree with what the first poster said. Paralegals do all the work that the lawyers do not want to do. ALL THE WORK they do not want to do. What that means is that on Fridays when they want to go play golf and they would rather not do the research on their cases, YOU will do it…..
